This paper proposes an approach for teaching Arabic morphology specifically designed for heritage language learners, those who have a family or cultural connection to Arabic but have not received formal Arabic instruction. Recognizing the difficulties these learners face in achieving linguistic fluency, the approach provides a comprehensive framework for constructing Arabic words using semantic and communicative analysis. By delving into the internal structure and mechanisms of word formation, including affixation, derivational formulation, and cliticization, this approach empowers learners to unravel the intricate connection between form and meaning. Placing emphasis on contextual language usage, it deepens their understanding of Arabic morphology by examining how morphological elements shape word meanings and functions. Ultimately, by fostering a conscious grasp of morphological rules and principles, this method enables heritage language learners to generate a wider spectrum of simple and compound words, fortifying their comprehension of semantic morphology, facilitating language acquisition, and enhancing communication skills. This, in turn, nurtures their linguistic development and confidence. The paper culminates by proposing practical classroom implementations, advocating for customized instructional materials that cater to the unique needs of heritage learners. By embracing this approach, we strive to nurture the linguistic growth of these students, contributing to the preservation and revitalization of Arabic language and culture.Downloads
